All OOC. Also, this is a bit long -- if you are in a hurry skip to the end
As Fechak has discussed in The Next Step, we need to update the various ranks and designations within the House of the Beast. We want to create more uniformity among the houses, while retaining their distinct cultures.
First, I would like to clarify that "rank" is not quite the right word for these achievements, in my mind. The House is not a military unit, or a hierarchy of any sort, except for some administrative authority for the Lord and Warden. This my preference, but also consistent with the lives of most hunters and druids, who spend much time alone, coming to the aid of the group at need.
The Blooding ceremony reflects this, in my opinion. The participant is not required to win the duel in order to be blooded. The Blooding is not a test of skill so much as a ritual of commitment to the House and the guild. It is also a part of the history -- and with D'ana'no's death, perhaps the mythology -- of the House. Kalmorith changed the blooding to take place after 30 days of membership in good standing, and the Lords have discussed changing it further to include only those at level 40 or higher. Probably most candidates, after 30 days initiation and 30 days membership will be at level 40 anyway. I am reluctant to make any other changes to this unique tradition.
This leaves us with a need to define a level 60 rank of some sort. I have some random thoughts of my own and contributions from others to suggest.
As far as titles, Hunter's Mark, Mark of the Wild and Ranger have been suggested. Hunter's Mark would require that we have a druid alternative. I also thought Guide or some variation of that might be suitable. But that idea may be contained within Ranger.
Part of the task will be to write an account in the forum. This account will have to be substantial. For those who are not comfortable with writing the equivalent of a short story, there may be alternatives such as telling your story at a gathering of some sort.
Since the candidate must write an account of their achievement, we cannot all pass the same test, or the forum will get a bit dull. Some possibilities:
Kiting Drakkasath so that a raid group can kill his two guards.
Leading a raid or 5-man group through one of the higher instances. This would probably include some caveats like, which bosses must be included, at least one guild officer in the group to certify the success, etc.
A dueling competition similar to the Champion title for Ensign. Not sure if this would yield the title of Champion or something else.
I'll also be reviewing the high end quests for some more ideas.
Please post your thoughts here. We will be discussing this issue at our meeting on Wednesday May 24. I hope that between the forum and the meeting everyone will have an opportunity to share their feedback.
