Greetings my brothers and sisters. I give you this history of myself so that you may know more of me, where I come from, and what I intend to do.
I was born in the late spring of the year 604 in the township of Lakeshire to Alarin and Cerina Crisato. My older brother Daerrin was none too happy about having a little brother. I don’t remember much about the early years, but one memory is still crystal clear… shortly after the Eve of Summer in the year 606, after the Dark Portal opened for the second time. Father had been called up to go with Lord Khadgar and Lord Turaylon’s expedition through the portal to close it once and for all. Even though I was just barely two years old, I remember everything about that day… how the sun seemed to scorch the sky red as it set over the mountains, how the fading light gleamed off the polished swords and armor of the Lakeshire detachment, how strong Father looked as told us good-bye and walked out the door. That was the last time I ever saw him. After he left, my sister Sarah was born in the spring of 607.
In the peaceful years that followed the Second War, my family tried as best it could to carry on without Father’s guidance. Mother got employment as a cook for the local tavern to try and make ends meet, while brother spent most of his time with the militia, determined to follow in Father’s footsteps. Sister had garnered the attention of the local mages and was given the opportunity to continue her studies at the Violet Citadel in Dalaran. My time was spent in a much less glamorous manner than my siblings – I was a record keeper for Magistrate Solomon. I always did find more comfort with a book in my hand than a blade.
When the Scourge came, we all feared for Sarah’s fate. Months passed and we heard nothing from her. Brother was growing increasingly displeased with the kingdom’s inaction against the Scourge, and with the withdrawal of the army in the face of increased movements from the orcs up north. After a spat with his commander, he resigned from the guard and stormed out of town to join the Argent Dawn in Stormwind. I have not heard from him in many months, but I know he still lives. He is too much like Father to die so easily. I, however, stayed in Lakeshire, tending to my books. Perhaps I was afraid to face the evil in the north… and willingly blind to the evil brewing within the kingdom’s borders. But I digress.
After King Anduin decreed that more copies of the kingdom’s knowledge be made available to the public, I applied for a transfer to Stormwind, which I was granted. I spent countless hours in Stormwind Keep’s library scribing book after book. It was not without its benefits, though. While there, I met a man by the name of Talleon Deanel. We talked about a great many things – the First War, the history of dwarves, family recipes, and of the evils in the world that seemed ever-increasing. But what interested the most of all our topics of discussion, was the Light and the Paladins that wielded it in the defense of others. I sat for hours on end and listened to tales of Lord Uther’s feats on the battlefield and of the philosophies and teachings of the Light. I said offhandedly to him that would greatly like to go to Northshire Abbey and learn more from the Priests and Paladins there.
The next day, Talleon came to visit me again, with an offer - an offer of a job and apprenticeship at Northshire Abbey. I was more than a bit surprised by the offer, but he assured me it was genuine. He revealed to me that he was also a Paladin in service to the Light, which did explain how he knew so much about it. The Stormwind library had agreed to let me go, and the Northshire library had agreed to take me in - Talleon said they seemed quite pleased to have another Paladin join the ranks of the kingdom.
I trained long and hard under Talleon’s guidance in my time at the Abbey. I learned to use the Light and the blade to protect others. But at that time, I had no others to protect.
Reports of attacks against the kingdom became more and more frequent, and in response, Northshire mobilized in defense of Stormwind. I went about my duties as best I could, but still felt there was something more I should be fighting for. That is when I first heard of the Defenders. As I have told Lady Polrena, I believe a sword is wielded best when wielded for a cause. The cause of the Defenders is one I would gladly pledge my sword and life to.
So, that is who I am - a simple librarian wishing to protect others from the horrors of this age… the man who will end this chaos, this war, so that there is nothing that people need to be protected from.
Thank you all for your time and for the opportunity to serve.
Light keep you all.
