A letter is left on the floor of the Defenders Hall, upon opening it, the letter reads…
Dear Defenders of Valor,
My name is Sir Germald Jenson; I am a scholar of the Mage’s Tower in Stormwind. My studies are vast, as many mage’s are, but my true love and profession lies in the field of psychology and medicinal alchemy. I bring to you, the Defenders of Valor, a case of history. It being the widely accepted and yet largely unknown story behind a man you have come to know solely as Doyl, or as he would like to have himself referred as “The Avatar of the Burning Legion, Doyl.”
I came across Doyl a time ago, during my time serving the Church of Holy light, I was discussing and treating several cases in extreme “eccentric” personalities that were being cared for there. One man, they asked me to observe and diagnose was a small portly man by the name of Doyl McAbbot. He was a severe “headache” as the clergy referred to him. He was held in the boarding house near the Cathedral, I found him there and as many of you already know, I discovered his “eccentric” behavior. After a thoroughly un-informative conversation I sought out the man who turned him over to the church, his father, Aaron McAbbot. Mr. McAbbot spoke highly of his ill son Doyl; I will share now his tale in its un-touched form
“My son was always a little strange, but he was always a good boy, we ran a shoe cobbling store out of Old Town, I taught him my craft and as I aged, I felt it was time for him to start taking deliveries. He didn’t have very many friends as a child, but I was always there. I don’t know what drove people away from him, but maybe that is the reason for his strange behavior. But, then again, I’m not one for pointing fingers. Either way, I sent him out one afternoon to deliver an order of several pairs of dress shoes to a very high paying customer. After he returned I remembered him having a thin book at his side, not so strange I thought, but after he bolted up to his room without so much as saying hello, I was a little concerned. It was only after a week or so and he began to scream as he spoke and claim he was the fear of all mortals’ hearts. I sent him to the church to see what they could do.”
Now, thoroughly intrigued by the book, I went back to Doyl. He was less than happy to let me take a look at his book. I questioned him several times of where he found the book, every time he claimed it was “the gift of the void’s eternal essence unto his mortal form.” Therein which I attempted to take a look at the book. After suffering several blows by shoes and a number of bite marks, I encased him in a block of ice. Taking the book while he was incapacitated I made a great discovery. The book was entitled
“Demonology and You, an Idiots Guide to summoning and Controlling Demonic Entities.
By Sandahl”
Sandahl was a former colleague of mine at the Mage’s Tower. Sandahl was a respected authority on Demonic Magicks, claiming that it held little sway over him. Only after delving a bit deeper than he should have he was expelled from the Tower. He evidently continued his studies and wrote several manuscripts. He was located in a well known Warlock’s Den, known as the Slaughtered Lamb.
Requesting his audience was simple enough, considering he respected my scholarly interests. When mentioning his book, he laughed a bit and claimed it was a simple joke that he and a few other of his “companions” thought of, playing to the simplicity of demonic Magicks at their core. Penning only one copy for a friend of his, he had lost it several months ago. I told him of Doyl and his connection with Sandahl’s book. He laughed a bit as it jogged his memory of his meeting with Doyl. Again I will retell the account in its original form.”
“He was pudgy little man, sprouting a limped leg I saw him walking down the early morning streets of Stormwind, just as I had asked. In his weak little arms he carried a large un-tethered bundle of nice dress shoes that I had tailored from his father.
*He begins to chuckle”
He was stomping sullenly across the bridge spanning the Canals towards me. He seemed to hate even being outside. I asked him about my shoes and he murmured a little and nodded. We walked the path toward the Tavern here, I asked him to stay in the bar area while I fetched my errand boy. As I walked away I heard him gasp and set down the bundle, not worrying to much about it at the moment, I just left him there in the bar.”
Returning back to Doyl, he had evidently been released from his care in the Boarding House after he attempted to summon a demon in the living area. His reasoning was to “Demonstrate his awesome and terrible powers over Mortal Souls” after a number of children made fun of him.
This brings me to you Defenders of Valor, it has come to my knowledge that Doyl is now within your care. I have deduced now that young Doyl suffers from Schizotypal Personality Disorder, it is often characterized with
1. ideas of reference (excluding delusions of reference)
2. odd beliefs or magical thinking that influences behavior and is inconsistent with sub cultural norms (e.g., superstition, belief in clairvoyance, telepathy, or "sixth sense"; in children and adolescents, bizarre fantasies or preoccupations)
3. unusual perceptual experiences, including bodily illusions
4. odd thinking and speech (e.g., vague, circumstantial, metaphorical, over elaborate, or stereotyped)
5. suspiciousness or paranoid ideation
6. inappropriate or constricted affect
7. behavior or appearance that is odd, eccentric, or peculiar
8. lack of close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives
9. excessive social anxiety that does not diminish with familiarity and tends to be associated with paranoid fears rather than negative judgments about self
I have given you this information so that you may use it at your benefit, I will remain at your disposal concerning Doyl, if any should need to contact me regarding Doyl’s behavior, I can be found at my home in Stormwind City.
Good Luck Defenders.
