As I have mentioned, my home is oddly prone to lightning storms and power surges. Well, last week was the coup de grace.
First REALLY big storm of the year, I went outside, enjoyed the smells and the sounds, you know, lame stuff like that. Went back inside, sat down for not one... not two.... but three minutes on my custom made PC (which was aging a bit and I planned on upgrading soon enough) But, the Thunder God of Norse Mythology said "NAY!" and he threw his might hammer Mjolnir at my home, causing lightning to strike on the southeastern portion of our home, completely destroying my PC in it's entirety. (Along with two televisions, and a 3000 dollar Stereo system. Total damages, 5,200+)
Upon inspecting a claim with our insurance, we were informed that we could not be helped on grounds that it was an "Act of God" which leads me to wonder what could not be considered an act of god, and if they can use that excuse for everything.
Needless to say, we dropped that insurance company.
But, I am upgrading and buying a new PC, I'm here at Sil's house checking my tracking system on UPS and eagerly awaiting my GPU.
So... in short.
It's good that I got a job when I did, because all my money that I had stored up is gone already and I am in debt by about 200 bucks.
Ah, yes, the "Act of God" insurance clause. I think that's a fairly standard exception, and it's one more reason why I think the insurance business is not that much different from a protection racket. When you switched companies, did you check the fine print?

Yeh, that clause is why homeowner's policies in California don't cover earthquake damage, why here in the shadow of Mt. Rainier policies don't cover volcanic damage, and why everywhere in the US you have to buy separate flood insurance, as floods are also in that category.
You know earthquakes will happen in California (and here), that volcanoes erupt, and that floods happen. The insurance companies know that, too.
To turn blindly away from something is to be controlled by it as much as if you were blindly following it. Open your eyes.
So, after I got the GPU, I found out that the MOBO I ordered was DOA, no problem, it was only 60 bucks, you get what you pay for, right?
Well, I broke down and said, screw it, I ordered an entire brand new PC
New Ram.
New Case
New Mobo
New GPU
New Processor
New HD
New Power Supply.
So, I FINALLY get all these new toys home, only to find out that the NEW motherboard they sent me was DoA as well. After a series of several aggitated spasms, I decided to return all of the items and break down, let my pride die, and buy a prefab PC from ibuypower.com. Rather than worrying about losing more money and time on a refund, RMA and eventually finding out something stupid.
So, I check online on getting all my items RMA'd, well, guess what, the 300 dollar Quad Core Processor I bought, yeah, it had a 7 day return limit. I was bummed, but not too bummed, as it is a nice processor. So, I returned the rest (70 dollar shipping fee, plus a 15% restocking fee leaves me about $175 short of what I paid for.)
So, to be precise.
$175 + $300 = -------
I'm lost monies.
Which would have been ok, if I had actually got a NEW PC out of the deal. BUT HEY! I HAVE A NEAT COMPUTER CHIP!!!
Here's where I go off shopping for a new PC from ibuypower.
That'll probably be $1,200
In the end.
My computer is still in pieces.
But, I won't have to upgrade next spring. I already did....
Which sucks.
Oh, on a side note, if any of you had been paying attention to the floods in Ohio last week. I was there, my basement flooded, my manager at work almost lost his house, two of my friends did. AND my sister and her two kids were living in a shelter.
and the whole time this was all going down...
I still went to work, because I need money to afford my WoWbox machine.
Well, I hope I am not getting ahead of myself, but, I think my long streak of bad luck may be ending, I ordered my PC about 11 days ago, I just paid for a company to rig it together for me.
Woot woot! Welcome back! Maybe I will be able to hop on (hard to, with this being Adhira and I's only date night a week.... go Stargate Atlantis premiere!).
Much wisdom, knowledge, an' answers kin be found in history... dun hesitate ta learn o' tha past.
