This post is Gudran's fault.
There is two parts to this post. Ned's talent build, and a link to an essential addon.
First Ned's build. For the record, I have never even dabbled in Ice talents. I probably should, but there it is. It's never been in Ned's character. Ned is, as you know, all about fiery damage and destruction. About a month ago, I found myself spending more and more time on my back (i.e. "dead"), which was frustrating because when I'm down I'm not helping the team. I repecced to deep arcane, and was very impressed. Arcane does great steady DPS and has very little threat. Tanks should love arcane mages. The trouble with deep arcane is that it is actually a mana pig. In boss fights, and especially in Karazhan, I ran out of mana. Also, having only the slow fireball was a problem when I hit an arcane-immune boss...
So I've respecced again, and I think I'm happy with it. If you want to see Ned's build, click here: www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?2300550000230150330125050500201230300000000000000000000000000000000.
I wont go into the technical details. It's a pretty stock build, actually. You will see that I have kept all the DPS-boosting talents from arcane, but use them to enhance fire. I have improved counterspell, which I love. And I have POM pyro (which currently can pump out 5000 pt crits). What is less obvious is that this build conserves mana. I am quite happy with it.
Why wont I be back to take a dirt nap and weakening the team? For two reasons. First, I open with five scorches, which is somewhat easy on threat, or arcane missles (with -40% threat) if I'm really worried. Second, I have discovered KLH Threat Meter. KTM is awesome! During each fight it shows the threat of each member of the team who has it insalled. Now, because I got Van to install it, I can ALWAYS make sure that I have less threat than him. I strongly recommend each of you install it to manage your own aggro and to get a better understanding of team dynamics. Find it here: wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/addons/raid/klhthreatmeter/
