((This is an old post from Vignettes, upon reviewing it I thought it would have a better home in the library.))
Walking quietly into the guild library, Valand grabbed a few misplaced sheets of parchement from his pack and placed them casually down on a nearby table.
The papers were well worn and smelled like the inside of a leather pack. The top sheet was rather new and on it, words read.
"Worgen and the Scythe of Elune"
July 12th -
I set out this evening from Darkshire, concerned residents asked me to check in on a family by the name of Yorgen.
I found the home in shambles, the familiar traces of Defias thugs ran about, more than likely it was their doings.
On returning with my information, they had some opposite news, evidently the head of the family, a farmer named Sven had made contact with the Night Watch. Evidently he had set up a camp north west of the Raven Hill Cemetery. I was asked to deliver supplies from the Carevin family.
Not surprising, I found him armed to the teeth. When I finally got him calmed down, he told me of a group of Dark Riders that hailed from Deadwind Pass came and massacred his family. The only last detail he mentioned was he saw an odd man burying something in his yard behind his stables only minutes before the Dark Riders came. He asked me to go find out what he buried, he offered me camp as the night was growing late. I will be staying here tonight.
July 13th -
I headed back out toward Sven's home, it was in the daylight hours. You couldn't tell from being in Duskwood though, that place was under constant darkness, after Medievh placed a curse on the land. This much I knew from my travels through Deadwind, and my many futile attempts to break into Karazhan.
Defias are good theives, good assassins as well. But they aren't that good at trying to stab through plate armor.
I found the roughly buried dirt pile, it's a surprise none of the thugs dug it up while looting. It was a half shredded journal.
Sven was unhappy with my results, but he thanked me nonetheless, after we both sat and analyzed the writing, we decided to check in Darkshire for any information.
After a long trek back to the Village, I decided that the local witch, or Diviner, would be of service. She could only make out a bit, but from what she did tell me, the owner was not a native of Darkshire.
Taking the book, I checked with the town clerk, Mr. Daltry.
He said he had remembered selling the same book to a "Jittery" looking chap.
Next, the most logical place to look would be the Inn, I described the person as best I could, the Innkeeper said that some strange man came in and rented a room for a few nights, then left heading west, talking about something haunting him. The only place he would find west of there was Raven Hill.
July 14th -
I spent the night in the Tavern, thinking it best to wait till morning to ride. I spent the next day scouring the ruins of Raven Hill, with nearly no success I came to one of the last houses, it was sealed shut, I almost ignored it but I heard, a faint whisper of a voice inside. I found a tiny man who calls himself Jitters. Upon asking him about the journal, he revealed himself to be the writer, giving me the full version of the Journal, I was to return to Sven with the news. Something odd about this journal entry, it bothered me. It referred to a Scythe, a Scythe of Elune, and how it spawned Worgen, or wolf-men. Having felt the dizzying effects of fighting them, it was no wonder why this man was so afraid. I feel as if there is more to be learned about this scythe and it's connection to the wolf-men.
July 24th -
I spent the next ten days here in Stormwind, inquiring about any sightings of Worgen nearing the Elven lands in Kalimdor. With nearly 9 days under my belt without any results, I was finally led to some answers, a traveling Elf on search of training within the eastern continents told me of how she was nearly ripped to shreds by "wolf-like creatures" north of Ashenvale near the Felwood border at a place called, "The Howling Vale". I will set out for Menethil Harbor and find transport across the ocean to Auberdine to find more answers.
August 2nd -
I was successfully able to find passage to Auberdine by storing myself in the cargo hold of a merchant's ship heading to Auberdine, luckily no one found me as we sailed. When I arrived I made my way quickly south into Astrannar, the Night Elven town in Ashenvale, maybe someone there could give me some answers. After polling a few elves for answers they pointed me to Sentinel Melyria Frostshadow. Upon asking her about the Howling Vale she asked me to look for myself, telling me that sightings of Wolf-men were true, she asked me to look for a Tome of Mel'Thandris, evidently the Howling Vale was once a Night Elven Shrine.
I made my way north, and after buckets of blood and bandages, I found the book. It showed me a vision of a Night Elf Priestess named Velinde Starsong who prayed to Elune was was gifted a weapon, a scythe. Heading back I told Melyria about the story, she asked me to speak with Thyn'tel Bladeweaver in Darnassus for she had no knowledge of Velinde.
August - 4th
When reaching Darnassus I was at first overwhelmed at the massive size of the tree, but that happens nearly every time I visit. I made my way to the Warriors Terrace and spoke with Thyn'tel, she told me to investigate Velinde's things.
Giving me a key I went to the Sentinel Bunker where she lived, I was only allowed admittance on the grounds that I was sent. When looting through her things, I found her journal. This is where things got interesting.
Her journal told a story about how she was blessed by Elune with a scythe that could summon fearsome wolf-creatures, or Worgen. It told of how she seemed to lose a bit of control from the Scythe and left the remaining Worgen in the Shrine. She spoke that she was going to make her way to the New World in search of information about a Wizard known as Arugal who controls Worgen of his own, she wanted to find a way to control them better so that they might take back Felwood. For an odd reason, her Journal remained behind when she left. She was on her way to the barrens the last she wrote.
Returned to Thyn'te, told me that the only port accessible by the alliance was in Ratchet. Naturally, I packed my things and made my way there.
August 24th -
Ratchet is a total waste of space, located in the middle of the sun blasted barrens, which is no wonder why the Horde is so angry.
I found a goblin captain named Wharfmaster Dizzywig. Told me that a night elf woman named Velinde booked passage to Booty Bay via the Black Osprey. Also that she had dealings with a Goblin Caravan driver named Ruzzgot.
I booked a ticket to Booty Bay shortly thereafter.
August 26th -
I found Ruzzgot, he told me that he wouldn't ever forget traveling with a night elf priestess north into Darkshire, he said that if she was still there, that the Clerk would be the one to know.
August 30th -
I met with Clerk Daltry once again in Darkshire, oddly enough he hadn't had any records of a Velinde Starsong staying anywhere in Darkshire, but of course, it's not often that Night Elf Priestesses stay in Taverns. But he did mention something about the Worgen, he said that Calor under the service of the Carevin family had walked into town with a whole string of their heads. I spoke with Jonathan Carevin. Carevin told me of the mine Roland's Doom, this is the mine that Jitter's mentioned in his Journal, where he allegedly found the Scythe of Elune. I asked for directions and he was more than eager to give them to me as long as I promised to watch my back.
September 2nd -
I remained at the inn for a few days to gather my bearings, I set out early this morning.
Cutting through swathes of ravenous creatures, I made my way to the back of the mine, I found a pile of misplaced dirt, the same that Jitter's described that he pulled the Scythe from. I discovered nothing other than a tiny glowing gem, looking much like the Shadowhide pendants from the gnolls in Redridge mountain. Soon after I picked up the gem, I was assailed by yet another vision of Velinde Starsong, she spoke of how she had failed her goddess, and how she had lost the Scythe of Elune. I gathered my things and made haste back to town, I am going to spend the night in the tavern this evening, maybe I will find out more about this Pendant.
While I was trying to sleep, I heard a bizzare voice emit from that Pendant, it was a man's voice, his name was Theocritus was his name, or as he proclaimed it to be. He said he was spying on his rival mage Morganth. I had no intention of helping him until he told me about him believing that the Scythe was in Morganth's hands. I made my way to his home in the Tower of Azora and spoke with him. He asked me to travel to Morganth's home in the Redridge, more specifically, the tower of Illgalar. I agreed to set out on the break of dawn.
September 3rd -
I made my way for the tower of Illgalar in Redridge, and made sure I was on my way to finding out more about this Scythe and the power of the Worgen. Illgalar was not friendly to say the least. I fought my way up the tower and slew Morganth in his slumber, dishonorable I know, but the matter of this Scythe is much more important. I found no traces of the Scythe there that day. I headed back to Lakeshire and decided to see if I can find any answers at the bottom of a mug. I found none.
September 6th -
I decided maybe finding information on the Scythe was the wrong idea, maybe I should follow in Velinde's footsteps, I decided I would head north to Silverpine and see if I can find any answers in Pyrewood Village, and try and gain audience with the Archmage Arugal.
September 13th -
Preperations are complete for my trip, all I have left to do is get there.
September 22nd -
I found my way into Silverpine easily enough, the scattered magi of Dalaran are encamped in the forests there, they helped me along the way pointing me to Pyrewood Village. When I arrived there, I found that the villagers there weren't hostile, but they weren't exactly friendly either. They were, well, strange. I decided that I would remain in the village over night, perhaps I can find more answers tommorow.
September 23rd -
I am laying in a crevice as I write this, my legs are torn to shreds and my armor is in shambles. I watched the innkeeper in Pyrewood transform into a Worgen before my eyes at sunset. As soon as the night had fallen the whole village were Worgen, and they all knew I was there. I escaped barely, I am going to rest here and wait till my wounds heal up. As soon as I am healed, I am making my way into Shadow Fang Keep, the massive looming castle above the Village. Archmage Arugal resides in there, and I will find out what is going on.
September 26th -
My legs are working again well enough, I should head inside and see what I can find.
I barely escaped Shadowfang Keep with my life tonight, I found Archmage Arugal, he wasn't as cooperative as I had hoped, a castle filled with Worgen, all bent on my destruction. I found Arugal in the highest floor of the keep, a brief discussion occured, but nothing else. He attacked me, I was forced to slay him. This in turn caused the whole Keep to rise up after me, with the whole village and the entire keep on my tail, I jumped off the parapet into the ocean, I swam north and hid in a cove. Before I left, I found a book called "The Book of Ur" I plan on reading it as soon as I am safe within alliance walls once again.
November 1st -
I read over the book I found in Shadowfang Keep, it explained a lot on how Arugal had summoned the Worgen. Evidently the Worgen are not native to this plane of existence, and they are summoned through channels which nearly no one can contain, the mage Ur found out how, he decided it was best left untapped. But Arugal felt that summoning the Worgen could help drive the Scourge out of the north. He took the book and despite his collegues best efforts, he summoned the Worgen. It worked for a time, but soon, the Worgen revolted against their Kirin-Tor masters. The feeling of immense guilt overcame Arugal when the Worgan corrupted the people of Pyrewood and created the Human/Worgen hybrids I saw. Arugal took control over his Worgen and hid them in secrecy in what he now called Shadowfang Keep. While inside he grew quite mad. I know that me possessing this book endangers myself and the alliance, I plan on returning the book to the Magi in Stormwind. Until then I plan on never seeing a Worgen ever again.
Walking quietly into the guild library, Valand grabbed a few misplaced sheets of parchement from his pack and placed them casually down on a nearby table.
The papers were well worn and smelled like the inside of a leather pack. The top sheet was rather new and on it, words read.
