The only reason I went with the Validus, was because it seemed our regular raid wasn't going to happen. I would rather be with a Defender group any day of the week, and if anyone had said, "hey, lets us Defenders go do something" ( anything ) I would have gotten outta AQ in a heartbeat. Four or five wipes there is ...painful, to the pride at the very least, but, somehow, dying with the Defenders is like... I dunno... Not painful! Heck, the 10 april excursion into Scarlet Strath with Hugs, Kan, Merlinne, Ric, and later Van, was a hellofa party..even if I did die lots.
On topic, if you post it...I will go!

I think the heart of my suggestion to have the time and place arranged in advance is to minimize the down-time and to keep things fair and impersonal.
I agree with Doc that we don't want to "sign in blood", as if a no-show or a late arrival would somehow be penalized or even looked-down-upon - of course such things happen. However I don't want the raid be delayed for 30 minutes for the signups to show while other available and interested Defenders were being excluded.
My starting point comes from two realities: (1) waiting around is no fun, and (2) Blizzard has forced us to exclude people. I think a clear and fair policy - some sort of first-come, first-serve - keeps the exclusions from becoming (or even appearing to be) personal. To me, signups mean that you can commit to the event without having to come an hour early to claim your spot; but if I'm late and Kan is there, the deal would be that Kan gets my spot, the raid starts on time, and no hard feelings.
I guess I'm just saying that I would far prefer to deal with being excluded from the raid if I'm late than deal with waiting around for it to start if I'm on time. Just my 2c.

Exactly my thinking. Also - I was only able to log in about 30 minutes prior to raid time due to being at work. Fechak was detained until even later - both of us being similarly detained was an odd occurance that happens once in a blue moon and shouldn't happen again soon, but if it does, I welcome the support, Hugnir.

I have to tender my regrets for tonight's raid (4/22), as I am committed to a social engagement this evening. Hope all goes well.

I wasn't here for the events the last two weeks, but I have noticed that the new limits complicate matters on Saturday nights. We usually have more than 5 but less than 20, and although in theory we could split up into groups of five we then have trouble with balance (usually not enough healers.) The number one improvement that I think needs to be made is for raids and all other guild events to start on time. This has been a concern of mine for a while. We often wait around for an hour or more and this penalizes the people who have made the effort to be on time. A sign-up sheet might make planning easier, but ultimately the confusion happens because people aren't on line yet and we aren't sure if they are coming later or not at all. Of course, real life priorities and unexpected events will make people late. If I'm late because something else (like work or family ) was more important than raid night, well, almost everything is more important than playing a game. I don't expect to apologize for that (except in cases where I have made a specific commitment) and I don't have my feelings hurt if the event has started without me, or if, on occasion, the event has evolved into something a bit different based on circumstances. There will be other raids other nights. Saturday night raids have been the most consistent guild activity -- I really appreciate Fech and Caspin's dedication to making sure that one or both of them are available virtually every week for the last several months. There will be times when it doesn't come together, or when the most attractive plan is to join in with the plans of some of our allies.

I actually feel as if I have to apologize, I have been really kind of out of the picture lately. I was supposed to be available for the raid that partook last night, ( Apr. 22 ) I even told Fechak that I would be there. But, like normal, I didn't show. I really don't have anything resembling a good excuse for it other than I have very demanding family/friends who will and have kidnapped me (Pennsylvania Incident).
But tonight I had made it certain that I would be here and I failed to meet that requirement. I felt kinda crappy when I look down at my watch and see that it is 12:00 pm EST *9:00 AST* And the Raid has more than likely began.
I really have no input onto this matter of a sign up sheet then to say it would be a good thing, but there are more than likely people like me... well.... people that have the same problems keeping their schedule the same.
Again, I'll try and not be a stranger.

I think that if you make a plan with a group of people, and they are counting on you to do a specific thing then it is important to treat that as a commitment and do what you can to be there.
But ordinarily, the Saturday night raids aren't like that (except for Fechak, I suppose.) If you are there, great, if you aren't we miss you but I don't think you need to apologize.
Val, we'd love to see more of you on line and have you along on raids and whatever. But it seems that people start feeling obligated to participate, and then they stop having fun and then they don't want to be here at all anymore. I hate seeing that happen. It's a game. Play if you want to.

For what it's worth, I am really trying to retire Dan if any warriors are feeling like they want to make the commitment to the be the guild's MT.
Until then, I imagine I will keep bringing him back from the dead each Saturday night, though I have warned that after next week, he will be undead...

I will *not* be around this weekend (5/20), so I do hope that Caspin or anyone else will take the reigns and get things going.
The week of 5/27 I want to do the first raid event - The Great Stratholme Race!! (Make sure you put two exclamation points...) A *full* clearing of Stratholme, all the bosses without exception. Bonus points for a 45 minute Baron run.
I will post a seperate threat for this now.
